Junior High Elective Classes
Art Enrichment A
Mrs. Diane Benjamin
This course is for those students interested in art history. It is intended to develop a student's understanding and knowledge of the history of art beginning with Baroque Art through Contemporary Art. Each week we will study a different period of art through the use of lectures, videos, and projects. The students will learn to analyze works of art including the study of the work's broad historical context. This course will provide each student with an opportunity to develop an enjoyment and appreciation of art for future years. Class participation and preparation are key elements of this class.
Book Club
Mrs. Nadine DeVost
This elective class will offer interested students the opportunity to read and discuss literature using the shared inquiry method, which means that students read, ask questions and draw inferences about the story. Discussions, group projects, creative writing and brief weekly expository assignments will allow students to broaden their ability to read and understand characters and themes in literature, practice their public speaking skills, and strengthen their writing skills, all in a fun atmosphere.
Computer Technology
Mr. Paul Goldowitz
The Junior High Technology elective will focus on computer skills including typing, word processing, animation and power-point. The students will be required to complete graded research, writing and editing assignments leading to a final power-point presentation at the end of the trimester.
Current Events And World Cultures
Mr. Jim Rolle
In the Current Events And World Cultures elective, students will learn about the political, economic, and social conditions affecting events currently in the news. In-class discussion, participation, and independent research projects will be key components of this class.
