Music
The music program is a comprehensive curriculum designed to give students practical experience learning to read music as well as an appreciation of different styles and time periods of musical expression. Students are encouraged to express their individual talents in the context of musical creativity.
From kindergarten through second grade students are introduced to reading music and learning songs from different cultures which also reinforces the language arts curriculum. Third and fourth graders learn to play the recorder, which reinforces musical notation and creativity. Fifth and sixth graders are exposed to many different composers and important musical figures throughout history in their Music Appreciation classes.
Students are also encouraged to perform songs in front of the class. Classes also write songs together and individually. Our music program follows the state standards for music in California, but also goes beyond.
